Air‑Care Southeast began in 1970 when founder Chet Highfill made a bold decision to leave his long-standing career in the ladies’ shoe industry with the Wohl Shoe Co. With the support of his wife, Polly, and nearly all of their savings, Chet enrolled in an air‑conditioning school in Houston. After graduating later that year, he launched his HVAC career as a service technician in Pasadena, Texas. By 1972, he joined Texas Air Care, where his skills and industry knowledge expanded rapidly. Encouraged by the company’s owner to open a south Houston location, Chet realized it was time to build something of his own.

In 1973, Chet officially founded Air‑Care Southeast in Pasadena. It quickly became a true family business—his daughter Vickie joined as secretary, and his son Carl worked after school. As the company grew, the office relocated to South Houston in 1978, expanding to three service technicians. In 1980, Carl earned his state air‑conditioning license, paving the way for even greater growth.

A Legacy of Expansion
By 1985, Air‑Care Southeast had grown from a one‑man operation into a thriving team of six service technicians and a full installation crew. The company expanded beyond heating and cooling to include refrigeration services. In 1988, the plumbing division was added, marking another major milestone in the company’s evolution.

Today, Air‑Care Southeast proudly operates with 50 employees and 20 radio‑dispatched service trucks, continuing its tradition as a family‑owned and family‑operated business. Leadership remains in the hands of Chet, Polly, Vickie, Carl, Mike, and Phillip—each committed to upholding the values the company was built on.

From day one, Chet believed in treating every customer like family. That philosophy remains the foundation of Air‑Care Southeast, guiding the company’s service, culture, and commitment to the community for more than five decades.
